What is high acidity?

The term acidity refers to a condition in which the body is impaired by excessive gastric acid production. The stomach secretes hydrochloric acid under normal circumstances to help in the absorption and degradation of food.

However, if this natural mechanism is caused in such a manner that it produces excessive acid output, it may cause health issues. Irregular dietary habits, fad diets, alcohol intake, fatigue, smoking, an unhealthy diet and a sedentary lifestyle can all contribute to acidity. Among the signs and symptoms of heightened acidity are:

  • Nausea
  • Indigestion
  • Constipation
  • Restlessness
  • Sour taste
  • Burning in the throat
  • Burning in the stomach
  • Fatigue

What is alkalinity?

To comprehend alkalinity, you must first understand pH levels. This is the metric used to evaluate whether anything is alkaline or acid. At the acidic end of the spectrum, a pH of 0 implies that the item being tested is fully acidic. A pH of 14 is fully alkaline on the other end of the spectrum. A pH of 7 is considered neutral.

The pH levels in various areas of the body vary, indicating that some are more acidic, and some are more alkaline. The pH in blood, for example, is usually between 7.35 and 7.45, making it mildly alkaline. The liver, on the other hand, is very acidic, with a pH of less than 3.5. Making your body more alkaline isn't about making it entirely alkaline – some acidity is needed for digestion and other bodily functions – but rather about putting the body into balance.

What are the benefits of alkalinity?

The body is happier and has a lower chance of chronic infection as alkalinity is improved, putting it into proper pH equilibrium. There's even a smaller risk of being sick. There are many advantages of having a stronger pH balance in the body, including:

  • Energy boost
  • Increased immunity
  • Weight loss
  • Improved cognitive function
  • Lower cancer risk
  • Slowed aging process

Foods to include in an alkaline diet

The pH of the food has no consequence on how it responds in our bodies. Fresh lemons and limes, as well as raw organic apple cider vinegar, can appear to be acidic, but when consumed they become alkaline.

Animal products, sugar, caffeine, juice and refined foods are also acid-forming foods. Leafy greens, root vegetables (especially radishes), broccoli, cauliflower, garlic, lemons, cabbage, and even cayenne pepper are alkaline foods.

Although the body requires both acidic and alkaline diets, a diet rich in refined foods and foods high in fat and sugar can lead to an excess of acidity. You will get your body into harmony and enjoy improved health by changing your diet, removing refined foods and eating a balanced, more vegetarian-based diet.
