How to Use pH Test Strips
For testing saliva or urine at home.
Before You Begin
• Wash and dry your hands thoroughly.
• Do not touch the coloured testing area.
• Remove one strip and immediately close the container to protect the remaining strips from moisture.
• For consistent tracking, test at approximately the same time each day.
Testing Your Saliva
- For best consistency, avoid eating, drinking, smoking, chewing gum or brushing your teeth for at least two hours before testing.
- Swallow normally, then allow fresh saliva to collect in your mouth.
- Place a small amount of saliva into a clean spoon or container.
- Dip the coloured testing area into the saliva, then remove it immediately.
- Compare the strip’s colour with the supplied pH colour chart within the recommended reading time.
- Record the result if you are monitoring changes over time.
Important: Do not place the test strip directly into your mouth.
Testing Your Urine
- Collect a small sample of fresh urine in a clean, dry container. A midstream sample is recommended.
- Dip the coloured testing area into the sample, then remove it immediately.
- Gently shake off any excess liquid.
- Compare the strip’s colour with the supplied pH colour chart within the recommended reading time.
- Record the result, including the date and time, if you are tracking your pH.
- Dispose of the used strip hygienically. Test strips are single-use only.
Understanding Your Result
The number that most closely matches the strip’s colour is your approximate pH reading.
• A reading below 7 is acidic.
• A reading of 7 is neutral.
• A reading above 7 is alkaline.
Saliva and urine naturally have different pH ranges, and readings may change throughout the day depending on food, drinks, hydration, medication and other factors.
