ETHNOBOTANICAL/TRADITIONAL
Ganoderma lucidum, is one of the oldest and most revered mushrooms, found to have been used for thousands of years in traditional forms of Chinese, Eastern, and indigenous medicines throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Lingzhi, or plant of immortality, was first recorded in medical Chinese texts over 4000 years ago.
Reishi was found to be so highly prized, that royalty and wealthy classes would hoard the mushroom, and employ envoys of fungi harvesters to search the ancient forests throughout China for only royal use. Reishi was significantly believed to bring happiness, health, luck and longevity to those who consumed it.
In addition, Chinese texts suggest that Reishi would tonify the three treasures: Jing, Qi and Shen, as well as, promote radiant longevity and spiritual enlightenment.
Reishi also was used by Taoist monks and other spiritual leaders and sages to connect to high levels of consciousness. Interestingly, Egyptian history speaks to Reishi being a gift from Osiris, the god of the afterlife, and has also been mentioned in ancient Roman texts as one of the foods of the gods.
Cultures have maintained and continued a deep reverence for Reishi and spiritual properties for generations.
